About Me & My Website Design

I’m a Poole-based website designer with almost 5 years worth of experience. Within that time, I’ve learned how to effectively create many different types of websites, including: business sites, personal portfolios, E-Commerce stores, blogs and many more. I create custom-coded Wordpress websites as they offer more customisation and easier post-launch management.

Currently, I’m looking for a job position as a website designer, whether that’s a local one in Poole or a remote one elsewhere in the UK. I strongly believe I’m a more beneficial choice for you than other candidates due to my conversion-optimised way of developing websites. My UX-heavy design approach will increase your site’s number of contacts, sales and income.

My Website Design Experience

After finishing secondary school back in 2021, I became interested in website design and started to learn some of the basic tools, such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP. In college, one of the units for my course was about website development, which was when I made my very first website. Looking back, despite getting the top grade for the unit, I can notice a lot of problems with this website, but that just shows how much I’ve improved since then.

Upon completing my college course, I took some online courses to further improve my skillset, which included courses about front-end, back-end and full-stack development. It was around this time I switched from developing custom websites to Wordpress ones, though I still use custom code to make the themes. Furthermore, I began learning more about UX design, and how to increase a website’s number of conversions, contacts, sales and income.

Over the last year, I’ve been working as a freelance website designer. Whilst I haven’t had too many clients just yet, I’ve still developed multiple real and example websites to show off my skills.

My Design Philosophy

When designing websites, I take a UX-heavy approach, meaning I prioritise ensuring the site is easy-to-use for anyone, no matter their technical expertise. Many businesses try too hard to make their website seem ‘fancy’ with weird design choices that only end up making it harder to use. If someone is finding it difficult to use their site, they’ll simply click off, hence losing the business a valuable customer. UX is the most important factor for a website’s conversions.

In the images provided, you can see an example website I made for a content writing agency. Not only is this site very easy to use, due to the effective headings and simple layouts, but I’ve also added some creativity to it with the lined paper background and handwritten fonts, matching with the purpose of the website. This is a perfect example of still making a website unique and visually-appealing without sacrificing its usability, leading to increased conversions.

If you’re still unconvinced with my design methods, please view my portfolio to see a complete showcase of both real and example websites I’ve made.

My Development Method

I create custom-coded Wordpress websites - using tools such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and many more - as they offer better performances and extensive customisation. Many Wordpress developers don’t code the theme of the site from scratch, instead they simply use a pre-made theme that they bought from an online store, which are often terribly built, horribly optimised and likely won’t be a good fit for your site as they were developed for another purpose.

Using custom code will allow me to implement any feature into your site, regardless of its complexity, without using too many plugins. For example, in the images provided you can see a real E-Commerce marketplace website I made for a client. This site includes many advanced features, such as:

  • A fully operational account and login system.
  • Item and user uploads to the backend.
  • Secure payment and search forms.
